* Sadleir 1794 and Wolff 4926; The sequel to the original Adventures of Hajji Baba, based
on Mirza abul Hassan's mission to England, accompanied by Morier, in 1809-10: for further
details of which, see A Persian at the Court of King George. The Journal of Mirza Abul
Hassan Khan, translated and edited by M.M.Cloake(London, 1988) and item Weston below.
Hajji Baba in England was reviewed by Walter Scott in the Quarterly Review. Scott, whose
own oriental tales The Betrothed and The Talisman had been published in 1825, thought
highly of the work, and concluded that in the power of assuming and maintaining foreign
disguise the author could claim "a complete superiority" over a number of other
"distinguished novelists" who had made similar attempts.
